Shoes are one those mysterious and sometimes overwhelming things for runners, especially for those starting out. When coming into a shoe store, there are 8 major considerations a runner should keep in mind. My thanks goes to The Runner's Repair Manual by Dr. Murray F. Thank you for pointing out that you want to make sure there is just enough toe room to prevent things like shin splints. My husband loves to run and is looking for some new running shoes. I'll have to do some research and find the best place to get him some new shoes.
